Wood-Burning

Wood Burning

Efficiently heat 1000 sq ft to 3500 sq ft with natural wood.

Great for use as a primary heat source, catalytic stoves provide a longer, more even heat output for greater burn efficiency. That means lower fuel costs to heat your home. Stoves with this burn method are easy to operate and maintain and are known for producing beautiful rolling flames. Does not require electricity.

Wood Stoves

A wood-burning stove is a heating appliance capable of burning wood fuel and wood-derived biomass fuel, such as wood pellets. Generally, the appliance consists of a solid metal (usually cast iron or steel), closed fire chamber, a fire-brick base and an adjustable air control. The appliance will be connected by ventilating stove pipes to a suitable chimney or flue, which will fill with hot combustion gases once the fuel is ignited. The chimney or flue gases must be hotter than the outside temperature to ensure combustion gases are drawn out of the fire chamber and up the chimney.

Wood Inserts

If you already have a masonry wood-burning fireplace but want to produce a greater amount of useful heat, consider a wood-burning insert. This is essentially a wood stove without legs, which “inserts” into your fireplace. It has a blower to distribute the heat output more efficiently into the room, and a surround to finish it off.

When a wood-burning insert is installed into a masonry fireplace, a full stainless steel reline is always recommended (as opposed to only a “direct connect” to the first clay tile) for the following reasons:

– Performance:
Draft is much improved if the proper size (6” diameter) chimney is used all the way from the stove collar to the top of the masonry chimney. If a 6” liner is “dumped” into an oversized clay tile, the flue gases will expand, cool, and slow down. Also, the metal liner will heat up very quickly, much more so than masonry, thereby aiding draft. Draft is the “engine” that determines the performance of the insert.

– Cleaning:
Chimney sweeps hate cleaning chimneys that are installed with “direct connects” because all the debris that is brushed off the clay tiles from above falls down and builds up around the area where the 6” round or oval liner meets the rectangular flue tile. This area becomes the “weak link” in the chimney system where all combustible tar and creosote deposits accumulate.

– Safety:
A full stainless reline eliminates the possibility of safety issues arising from defective clay tiles or masonry. We do not have to be concerned with the integrity of the brick structure which quite often has “hidden” problems which are not often identified during a chimney inspection. Also, chimney fires are much better contained within a UL listed 2100-degree stainless liner which can expand and contract freely with extreme changes in temperature.

We carry Lopi and Hearthstone, two of the highest-rated inserts in the country (made in the USA) to give you, not only a great selection of styles and sizes but to provide the highest quality available. Massive in weight (averaging 450 lbs), these inserts will burn for 10-12 hours without any additional fuel and will provide up to 70,000 BTU’s of heat, which is enough to warm a 2,000 square area.

Zero-Clearance Wood

Zero-Clearance (Pre-Fab) Wood Fireplaces are factory built metal fireboxes that give you the warmth and charm of a masonry fireplace at a fraction of the cost and can be installed practically anywhere in your home since they require no clearance to combustibles for framing. The fireplace opening may have metal louvers or grills on the top or bottom.
